Milkyway and an Olive Grove on Greek Symi
On the Greek island of Symi, I had trespassed a fence into an olive grove owned by one of the many monasteries on the island.
After I had packed up my gear and forced the fence once again to get out I drove passed this view of the entire scenery and felt I had to stop and pack out the gear again 😂
In the first image taken from inside the olive grove (see other photo) I was placed between the trees in the bottom center of this photo – and this photo was then taken from the road above the olive grove.
The scenery light is from the almost full moon who had risen while still inside the olive grove – and the prominent “star” the bottom left of the Milky Way is actually the planet Jupiter while Saturn is on the other side of the Milky Way a little further up (must prominent of the stars).
The dim light at the horizon most probably comes from the town of Livadia on the island of Tilos some 44 km away.
I love this photo as I like the combination of the terrestrial nature lit up by the night light of the Moon in combination with the amazing vastness of always omnipresent Space we might not notice in our everyday life 🙂
