The table top mountain of Cerro Armazones seen from Cerro Paranal at a distance of 20,5 km.
As the Cerro Paranal the Cerro Armazones used to be higher, but similarly the top was blown away to produce this flattened top with an altitude of 3.046 m a.s.l. where the world’s largest telescope will reside in a few years from now – the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT or just ELT for short).
The telescope will have a main mirror with a diameter of massive 39,3 meters!! 😀
